Little Girl Giant

mood: tired
music: Décollage – Les Balayeurs Du Désert

Finally – something blog worthy. It’s been a while, but I thought this was definitely worth the time to archive. I’m sorta freaked out and mezmerized all at the same time. The song to me is amazing… Also a bit strange, but soothing… Click Little Girl Giant to see her in action.

** I’d randomly like to add, a special thanks to flickr users for tagging and posting the *right* stuff. trying to find an appropriate photo for this using image search… not a pretty sight.

The best hummus recipe

the women of ‘puddin’

A few days ago late in the evening, I hairline fractured my left foot and sprained it pretty bad. It’s funny though… right after it happened, I knew it hurt, but didn’t realize it was as bad as it was, so I continued to walk on it. My ego was hurting more than my foot at the time, however, about 5 minutes later, my ego started hurting much less. I figured I’d take some advil, ice it, prop it up, and it would be better the next morning. Unfortunately for me, the next morning came, and it was more painful, more swollen, and more blue! Then, silly me, hops out of bed to get more advil – all i can say is “ooof!”

I immediately realize, there is no way I’m making it to work. I called my dr. and they have an opening at 9:30 – it’s about 8:45… I then proceed to email my boss, and tell him I’m not going to be making it in. I then call my PM, Uzma to let her know I won’t be making our 10 AM 1 on 1. At that point, I was more rushing than anything, trying to get ready, not able to put any pressure on my left foot, and taking care of clearing my day… As soon as I hear her voice, mine starts to crack a bit:

“Uzma, I can’t make our 10 this AM. I hurt my foot and am heading to the doctor.”
She says “I’m on Embarcadero Road! Do you want me to take you?!”

I’m not typically the type to say yes, however, this time, I accepted. I think it went something like this:

“I… I… uh… I… actually, yes… are you sure?” – as I grimace in pain.
She says “Of course!”

So, Uzma carts me to the doctor (coincidentally, we realize we have the same dr! ha!), then to another building to get xrays, and back home again. I thank her profusely, and hop on my right leg to get the phone and chill on the couch to await the xray results which confirm: hairline fracture on the top of my left foot. This all started Wednesday evening. Since, I’ve been at home, icing every 20 min, taking lots of ibuprofin, and some other pink pills that make the pain fade a bit ;)

So, the doorbell rings this AM and im thinkin its a solicitor… I start peeking, peeking through the window by the front door. The shades are pulled up just enough where I can see movement, but not enough that anyone can see in. It’s a pretty long way from the couch to the front door, so I wait it out considering 1) I’m not that mobile, and 2) it’s typically a solicitor of some sort, either selling things, religion, or politics – none of which I feel compelled to rush over to welcome. The person rang the doorbell 3 times! So finally, I get up off the couch and crutch over (yes, I’m on cruthes for at least 2 weeks). Just about the time I’m half way to the door, the person goes away. So… im thinking… yeah, thats what i though… greeaaaaaat! :( Then… I hear a truck start up, so I start thinking Brian was going to have something delivered (he’s in Japan). He is typically pretty good at telling me when things will be delivered when he is away. Anyway, i go to the front door and slowly peer out the door just in case it is indeed someone selling *something* – but out of the corner of my eye, on the doorstep, I see this long, HUGE box. At this point, I’m glad I opened the door cause I wouldn’t want anything getting stolen…. then, to my suprise, I look down and see its for me! I’m now thinking – uh, I dont think I ordered anything, but iIhave been a lil… uh… relaxed on pain meds… perhaps i did and forgot?

I lean over, pick it up the box, put it in the door, and stratigically schootch it all the way to the kitchen. By now I know, it’s a box of flowers… but from whom? BL sent me flowers?! No way!! (heh. I was right about that ;))

I open the box, and there is an incredible bouquet of orchids :) I see the envelope, I read the note, and it put such a smile on my face:

“Melanie, We miss your smiling face already and hope that gosh darn foot feels better soon. All the best — Uzma, Joy, and Becky”

You ladies are amazing!! Thank you!!

often describe how im feeling and what im going on in my head better than i can describe in my own words, so here’s one for this week …

Life – Our Lady Peace

How many times have you been pushed around?
Was anybody there?
Does anybody care?
How many time have your friends let you down?
Was anybody there?
Did anybody stare?

How many time have your friends let you down?
Just open up your heart
Just open up your mind
How many times has your faith slipped away?
Well, is anybody safe?
Does anybody pray?

Oh, Life is waiting for you
So messed up, but we’re alive
Oh, Life is waiting for you
So messed up, but we’ll survive

How many days have you just slept away?
Is everybody high?
Is everyone afraid?
How many times have you wished you were strong?
Have they ever seen your heart?
Have they ever seen your pain?

Oh, Life is waiting for you
So messed up, but we’re alive
Oh, Life is waiting for you
So messed up, but we’ll survive

She gets high
She gets lost
She gets drowned by the cost
Twice a day, every week, not a lie

She gets high
She gets lost
She gets drowned by the cost
Twice a day, every week, not a lie

Oh, Life is waiting for you
So messed up, but we’re alive
Oh, Life is waiting for you
So messed up, but we’ll survive
All messed up, but we’ll survive

360 Feeds

mood: moopy
song: I’m A Lonely Little Petunia – Imogen Heap

So… the only way I can get my real blog to feed to my 360 blog is to be more active. It appears it only post the 3rd most recent post. Strange cause a blog really should contain current and not stale info. Is this to get you to use your 360 blog instead of your real blog? hmmm… curious… whatever it means, I guess I need to stop neglecting my blog.

(to find the image above, i did a search on “petunia” – turns out “petunia” is a common dog’s name :) )

—ok, i stand corrected. i just checked out 360 hours after this post, and voila, there they all were… sweeet!
